Welcome to New Mexico!

After working for a couple of days in Boulder, Charlotte and I headed down to Taos, New Mexico to hang out. This was the first time any Dufoe kids have been to NM, so this was a new state for each of us! I have been to 40ish states and Charlotte a little less, so that was a big deal.

First, we visited the Earthship Biotechture community: “radically sustainable buildings.” These buildings, located pretty much in the middle of nowhere in the desert, are crafted out of recycled and sustainable materials and are classified as “green buildings that meet standard building codes.”

This community really comes out of nowhere – we had to do a double take when we saw these buildings, which are practically built like hobbit houses (in the ground, partially).

Next, we visited the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (pictured above) and took another sister selfie!

After heading back from lunch in Taos (authentic Mexican, yum!), we came across a BLM sign for “Taos Plateau” and decided to off-road over 30 miles back to the Colorado border.

After driving along the road for a few minutes, we found a road that lead to the gorge, where we were able to sit on the edge and look down without a bridge in the way!

We saw some rafters in the Rio Grande below…
…and we met some cow friends on the way!
Thanks for visiting New Mexico with us.
